Young Osteoglossum ferreirai(black Arowana), and Uarú amphiacanthoides

A group of juvenile Uarú amphiacanthoides. The water is coloured like black tea because of humin-acids from the stored root-wood, the pH is ca. 5.5 , that means similarly sour like in the original amazon biotope.
Black Arowana approximately 4 months old. Take heed the red color of the unpair-fins with this subtype "ferreirai".
In front below my striped thorny-catfish "Dorni" (Platydoras costatus) approximately 28 years old, is looked after by me since 26 years , to be recognized behind unclearly, a Geophagus altifrons from the Rio Negro.

Young Uarú pair stands peacefully together

A male Uarú and an armor-catfish (Ancistomus spec./ L75) from the Rio Curuá Una. - Take heed the traces at the rootwood, that comes from the good teeth of the Uarus. A particular article about the fascinating behavior of the Uarus will follow soon.

One of my older aquariums with beautiful plant-growth within and outside of the tank. There are swimmming Geophagus altifrons, Satanoperca daemon and Satanoperca lilith, Pterophyllum " altum " wildcaught from Peru, miscellaneous catfishes and knife-fish and even the long Characins Boulengerella maculata among others.

Even an older aquarium with Blue Discus (Symphysodon aequifasciatus of the Lago Manacapuru) just as one pair of Peru - "altum"- Angelfishes, that has worried about their tiny offspring. The young-fishlarvae were defended even successfully against Heros severus (eye-stain-cichlid).

A male Satanoperca daemon , for which is called devil-cichlid (belongs to the Geophaginae), although he is a quite peacefully skilled guy.

A particularly beautiful Blue Discus, Symphysodon aequifasciatus, wildcaught from the Lago Manacapuru
This is my male Semi-Royalblue Discus wildcaught from Alenquer in Central-Amazon.- I´m breeding only occasionally and strictly private with no financial interest.
The female Discus and my "Archie" , a Black-Ghost-Knifefish (Apteronotus albifrons) in front of his cave.
A beautiful male Acarichthys heckelii (threadfinned cichlid) ca. 23 cm. This guy spent his life with me for 5 years. Then he died of the typical cichlid disease "Hole in the Head".I´ll report my special knowhow about avoiding or healing the HITH-disease as soon as possible on this site ;-)

A "Black Ghost"- Knifefish (Apteronotus albifrons) from Colombia, that not only because of his weak-electric organ belongs to the most fascinating creatures of the evolution. - I have possessed a male specimen of in the meantime approximately 35 cm, that I name "Archie", for many years (in contact at the formerly scientific name " SternARCHus albifrons "). And to him I have a quite deep connection. Anyway he takes his food from my hand and he can admirable swimming-acrobatics with help of his electric-sense and his long "undulating" anal-fin . I plan the purchase of further (female) specimen for Archie, because observating him is so exciting, that you cannot see at all sufficiently enough. - On him and his relationship of Knifefishes I´ll still come back later on , also because of the highly interesting neurobiological research on weakly electric knifefisches.

My dearest armored-catfish, Glyptoperichthys scrophus from Peru,ca. 25 cm , that I have since more than 10 years, a strongly armored "Jurassic-beast" with charisma, looks like a living fossil. Also known as "Rhinoceros-Pleco" :)
